The aims of the group are to have a provocative and interesting exchange of views between members on subjects in the news. By its very nature, Current Affairs as a study area reflects timeliness.
It is important that the views of each member are respected. Heated situations can occur especially in the realms of politics and religion (plural in today’s world).
We have experienced more than 25 years of argument, not necessarily reasonable: that often makes our meetings dynamic. We can say that there are no verbal fights, limited discipline but always interesting and up to date topics.
The Group is fluid - generally between 11 and 14 folk, though it has been a good deal larger at times which can make ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to air their views tricky. An agenda is mostly provided in advance of meetings. The chairperson is among the Group chosen /volunteered from meeting to meeting.
We meet in the lounge behind St Thomas’ church hall in Mayflower Way, Holtspur, at 1.45 pm until 3.45 pm
