Membership of the u3a is for those not in full-time employment as it is aimed at those in the 'third age'. Members therefore have the time to contribute to the u3a's purposes.
Membership costs £28 per year (July - June), with an additional £4.00 if you wish to receive the Third Age Trust magazine (5 issues/year). There is a sliding scale for membership throughout the year (see membership form). As a charity both we and you can benefit from Gift Aid. The membership form can be downloaded from here, and the membership renewal form (from June) here.
To join, download a membership form, print it, complete it and send it to the membership secretary (the address is on the form). Payment can be made by cheque or by bank transfer (preferred), or online by credit/debit card (link below). Renewal is similar but with the renewal form.
Those with the capability may be able to edit and email the form. A photograph of the form may also be emailed. We are hoping to provide an on-line form shortly.
You can make an ONLINE PAYMENT here. You will need your card details, email address (for a receipt), phone number and probably your mobile phone for any validation code that your card provider may require. Make sure you have these up and running before you start! NOTE: the website can be slow to respond - please be patient!
For membership fees you MUST send in a membership form as well, either by post or email to memsec@sbu3a.org.uk.
Members can attend the monthly general meetings and join any groups (provided they are not full). Prospective members may attend general meetings as an introduction or up to three group meetings with prior consent from the convenor/committee. Membership confers u3a insurance on meetings and activities, so non-member participation is strictly limited.
Members of other u3as may attend one of our groups (if there is room - preference will be given to SBu3a members). Joining more than one group will require SBu3a membership.
New members should receive a copy of a welcome pack, which can be downloaded here.
Our members come from all around the area. Here is a Googlemaps representation of their distribution. Google privacy terms and conditions apply. Locations are to postcode/road only for privacy purposes - no personal data is included.
