Unfortunately our book club is not accepting new members as we do not have room.
We meet in each others' homes once a month. Our aim is to give members the opportunity to read a wide range of books and to discuss our opinions of them.
We choose 2 books each month and our selection includes fiction and non-fiction. We include Booker Prize winners, some classical authors and some books recommended by members. At the meetings short presentations are followed by general discussion.
Authors selected during the past year include Robert Harris, Lynne Truss, P.J. Wodehouse and Kazuo Ishiguro.
Please contact the convenor Celia Oram at agbooks@sbu3a.org.uk regarding future meetings.
Previous events
We read House of Doors by Tan Twan Eng. This is about Somerset Maugham visiting friends in Penang. It is beautifully written and most of us thought it was interesting.
We also read Foreign Affairs by Alison Lurie which examines 2 Americans in England and was amusing.
