It is not necessary to have any specific knowledge of antiques and collectables, rather an interest in finding out more about such items, and along the way often discovering more about your own things, some that perhaps have lain at the back of the wardrobe for years!
Our meetings are largely based around a series of themes, with usually a short introduction by a member of the group followed by other members describing related items that they have brought along. These often have very personal stories associated with their acquisition, and also provide an insight into their provenance, all of which make our meetings interesting, enjoyable and invariably humorous! Sometimes members have done their own research on the internet, and this occasionally results in some surprising finds, and most important of all, we do learn a great deal from each other. Members also give presentations on their special areas of interest, and from time to time we welcome visiting speakers.
We are a very friendly group and new members are always most welcome, We meet on the first Friday of the month at 2pm in the Curzon Centre.

Past events
Our meetings have continued with a series of more general topics during the Summer, and this has allowed us to broaden the range of antiques and collectibles.
Taking a letter of the alphabet as a theme has always proved popular, and in May the letter ‘M’ was no exception, with items ranging from medals, magazines and money to Mah Jong and Marionettes, to name but a few!
The following month the title ‘Containers’ produced an equally varied set of objects, from the more traditional jugs and bottles to highly collectable old Bisto and Pears Soap tins, and even the remains of an old fire bucket made from leather!
In July we combined our Summer Celebration entitled ‘Yellow’ with a tea party in aid of the local Butterfly Hospice, raising £110. Amongst the many yellow items on display there was a copy of Yellow Pages, which apparently are now regarded as collectable items!
‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside’ continued our seasonal theme in August. A short history of holidays beside the sea set the scene, with sponges and shells from around the world sitting alongside binoculars, paintings and examples of Donald McGill postcards, today frequently bought by collectors. However, old photographs of distant relatives taking the sea air, dressed in their Sunday best, reminded us of how seaside revellers have changed today!!
