This is for those who prefer stepping out more energetically. 2.5 hour/7-8 mile walks of standard Chilterns terrain walking with a pub lunch at the end if you wish. Stops are minimal.
The walking group meets on the 2nd THURSDAY of the month, usually starting and finishing at a pub for lunch, possibly sharing it with shorter walks group who start later. Details of the walk are emailed a week in advance.
Please note that members join the walks at their own risk. Boots and sticks are recommended. You will be advised of the area and terrain prior to the walk. A suitable level of fitness and mobility is expected - let the leader/convenor know if you have any specific ailments or concerns before starting the walk. You are advised to provide your own first aid kit.
Keith is the convenor for all walking groups as well as proposing and leading walks. PLEASE lighten my u3a load and volunteer to assist! Unfortunately due to medical appointment considerations I am unable to commit to leading currently. Organising/leading a longer walk entails picking a (currently) 2.5 hour 7-8 mile ‘Chilterns’ route, reconnoitring it for stiles, mud and other hazards, and warning the pub of impending lunch custom.
We walk at the pace of the slowest, but this group assumes that all are capable of a reasonable pace uphill and down dale. If in doubt, start with the medium walk group.

The last longer walk of 2025 didn’t happen due to walkers availability/lack of interest. In February we walked from the Old Oak, Holmer Green round Little Missenden and Shardeloes.
I have some 7 milers that I can run at a drop of a walking pole. I offer these for your delectation and delight. They are:
A) The Cock Inn, Sarratt WD3 6HH – this was the one planned last year
B) Crooked Billett SL7 3SG – Wycombe Marsh, Deangarden Woods (The General Havelock HP11 1HZ is a possible pub alternative)
C) Red Lion Penn HP10 8LF (or other local pub) - Gomm Valley, Loudwater (The General Havelock HP11 1HZ is a possible pub alternative).
Please let me know if you ware interested in these and if so, any preference or ‘not that one’. Once I have at least a couple of responses I can set it up…
If the 2nd Thursday causes availability issues we can start negotiations…
