During this period, I played a selection of classical music and this has largely remained unchanged over the years but often music is added to the list if it is the theme song of popular films or TV series.

We heard music by by Grieg, Mozart Elgar, Beethoven etc as well as Dvorak’s New World symphony which was the theme for a well-known TV advertisement for “Hovis” and the classical guitarist, Julian Bream played Concerto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo.

At the next meeting, we played some tracks by French popular singer Francoise Hardy as well as hits of the 1970’s. Tracks by Elton John, Simon and Garfunkel, the Supremes, Abba etc were omitted from this selection and as a result the remainder were considered by the group to be rather dull. The meeting at which we played members’ favourite music was a truly pot-pourri selection because it included modern opera, country and western, Edith Piaf, Frankie Laine and Pavarotti.
